Living Church
There is so much more to being part of Stocksfield Church of England than you might realise. Of course we get together to worship but we journey together in so many ways beyond just that.

Growing with Jesus
‘Growing with Jesus’ (GWJ) is our ministry with children and families. We have specific gatherings where children, young people and their adults are the focus. These are twice a month in the church hall including bible stories, prayers, songs (often with actions!) and craft activities and much fun followed by hot chocolate, snacks and social
time.

Social Events
Our wonderful social team have this year arranged a fish & chip social, a summer barbecue and we can't wait to find out what they're cooking up next.

Open the Book
We support our local first schools bringing Bible stories to life in the interactive and engaging 'Open the Book' format. We also welcome Mickley and Broomley First Schools to use St George's church and St Peter's church for key dates in their school years.

Rose Tree Communion Service
Do you have a family member in Rose Tree Care Home in Mickley? Let us know if you think they would like to join our once-a-month Communion service or receive a visit. These are always very special times with everyone joining in as they are able.

Journeying Together Fellowship Group
This group meets weekly on a Tuesday at The Vicarage for fellowship, to reflect on the Bible, to worship and to pray for each other.

Choir & Music
Musical enthusiasts from our congregation and wider community who enjoy sacred choral music get together informally to lead our music in services at Festivals and special occasions. They are particularly busy in the run up to Christmas singing in many villages, hostelries, care homes and more around the area. We are fortunate to have several talented organists and a small informal music group.

EcoChurch
One of the PCC decisions of 2025 was to enroll Stocksfield Church of England into the national EcoChurch scheme. This decision was accelerated by the passion of our young people. EcoChurch status is worked out location by location within a benefice and we are at the start of the journey of auding our current practices to identify next best steps.

Pastoral Team
Our dedicated pastoral team are invaluable. As well as being attuned to any needs among our church or community, they also take home Communion to those who are housebound and run quarterly cream tea socials arranging transport for those who find it hard to get out and about unaided.

Events
Through the year we run many events to raise either funds or awareness of the church. In 2025 these have included our :
-
Cycling Sundays (Sunday morning coffee for walkers and cyclists at Bywell)
-
A poetry and music evening
-
A 'meet the author evening'
-
And we relaunched the marvellous Bywell Arts Festival, which had not run since 2019.

Grounds and Buildings
Our church buildings, grounds, gardens and churchyards do not maintain themselves. The number of volunteers, both congregration and also our neighbours who give time to support us with gardening, repairs, cleaning, opening for the public etc is immense. The Church Wardens and Vicar could not manage without you. Thank you!

PCC
A church community doesn't run itself and the parochial church council (PCC) support the vicar and the churchwardens in the practicalities of operating the church and in taking and acting on the necessary decisions.
